Another interview nice interview with Rhys :)

29 Mar, 2011

LA-based Aussie actor, Rhys Wakefield tells how superheroes helped pave his path from Summer Bay to Hollywood, detouring at Las Vegas’ Roulette wheel along the way – and all the lessons learned in between.

CLEO readers might know you from your time on Home and Away. What were the best things you learned from your years on the show?
The whole show, in itself, was paid training in every aspect and an amazing growing experience as a person. Being able to do a scene and see it within a few weeks on air, you get this amazing sense of yourself in terms of feedback and start being able to critically analyse yourself. So, now I can watch my work without cringing and making it a really superficial experience. I feel like I can maybe learn from my mistakes. In saying that, it’s still a terrifying, awful experience to watch yourself on screen! (laughs). The show, Home and Away, really allowed that to happen and it was an amazing learning experience.

What was your experience watching your new movie Sanctum for the first time?
The first time I saw it was in private which was nice. Recently I saw it 90 per cent finished sitting in the back of a big cinema with and a test audience which was a really exhilarating experience and a scary one because I could hear their reactions. It was quite amazing to hear them holding their breath or laughing at the right moments.

I’d imagine all your focus would be on the test audience and what they’re doing…
Yes, yes – totally! So often I was looking around at them and they had no idea that I was there which was really cool. We got amazing feedback, they really enjoyed it.

Did you always know you wanted to conquer Hollywood?
That’s a good question. It seems like a natural progression [if you want] to make a sustainable career out of it to come over here. So yeah, I think it was just something I was naturally drawn to.

What inspired you to want to get into acting?
As a kid I loved superhero movies and they are what made me want to become an actor. I just thought it was a really incredibly thing seeing someone with all these superpowers.

What’s the last thing you watched on YouTube?
The last thing I watched on Youtube was a kid singing a Katy Perry song. It’s hilarious – definitely made me laugh! That kid’s a legend.

What’s the last thing you spent too much money on?
Actually, I went to Vegas last weekend – that’s what my stupidest expense has been. I gambled a bit of money and it was so much fun and I have no regrets.

Were you a winner?
I was a winner… and then I was a loser. I walked away at a loss, I was $200 down. But that’s not too bad.

What were you playing?
Black Jack and Roulette. Roulette is hard and fast. But Vegas is a funny place and everything you hear of it – and more –  are crazy!

20 Jun

Found more pictures and info from The Philosophers press conference. The article were in indonesian (?) and was translated using Google translate, so the wording may be a little incorrect. I tried to correct the most noticable stuff thought. I bolded out things I found specially intersting.

Film The Philosopher, immediately attract the attention of journalists in Indonesia.
June 24, 2011

The reason is that the film is a Hollywood production, involving producers and foreign filmmakers, as well as the cast who have been involved in large-scale Hollywood productions.

This excitement was created about 2-3 weeks ago, when one actor in the Harry Potter series, Bonnie Wright, said in an interview she will be filming in Indonesia.

Boleh.com tried to do a little investigation and get various information about this film (own story)

The Philosopher, the film proved to be a production of SCTV, along with Hollywood producer, George Zakk and Cybill, this afternoon held a press conference, related to filming starting tomorrow (Saturday, June 25, 2011).

Located on SCTV Tower, 19th floor, Senayan City complex, a press conference of The Philosopher, was attended by the party of SCTV, the producer and the entire cast.

There is a Programme Director and the Production of SCTV, and Alfin Harsiwi Achmad Surya Atmaja, producer George Zakk and Cybill, director John Huddles, and the cast as Bonnie Wright, The Commander actor James D’arcy, former Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara, Freddy Stroma, Sophie Lowe, Sanctum actor Rhys Wakefield, Indonesia and actress Cinta Laura Kiehl.

In the press conference, representatives of SCTV, Harsiwi Achmad, said they were very proud to participate in the collaboration, directly supports the production of The Philosophers, a Hollywood film class at the same time doing shooting at several places in Indonesia.

“This collaboration has significance to the world of television and film Indonesia. It’s not easy to gain trust so that the tenants of The Philosophers teams are sure to do the filming in Indonesia in the long term,” he explained in a press release Harsiwi.

Further Harsiwi explain this is a widescreen project and will be screened throughout the world, not only in theaters in Indonesia. However, when asked relates to freeze while playing a Hollywood terkain import taxes, Harsisiwi replied, “We’re optimistic. Obviously this film will get a distributor of world-class film. The film is still a long process, filming tomorrow, and then pass through various stages of production of other . So it is still long. However, we are optimistic will be aired in Indonesia. ”

Still according to Harsiwi, through the medium of The Philosophers, Indonesia get the opportunity to promote the name of Indonesia in the world of international cinema. And a promotional event that Indonesia has a natural and beautiful scenery, for seekers of natural attractions and natural.

So Harsiwi added, would be very strange if the movie is filming in Indonesia, it can not be aired in Indonesia.

“Wong shooting in Indonesia, the cook did not play here,” joked Harsiwi.

Meanwhile, producer George Zakk and Cybill, and director John Huddles said the film will be is about 20 teenagers who attended an international school in Jakarta, which follows a philosophy class. They consist of various nations and be taught by a teacher (to be played by James D’Arcy).

They then obtain a job, and an experiment of the teacher. Of the 20 students, they receive the kind of tests and then will choose 10 people, to then improve the human race against the threat of nuclear danger.

John Huddles, the film will also air-thriller genre and will be filming at various places in Indonesia.

When Boleh.com try to confirm the facts we can be that they will be filming around Central Java and East Java, Huddles smiled and said, “We will be filming in beautiful places, including in one of the temple.

The Philosophers will start filming tomorrow and will take approximately seven weeks.

Neither party or parties SCTV own film crew was still covering the various details related to this project. They reasoned want to maintain the confidentiality and security film and crew, and promised to provide an opportunity to provide further information. In fact, they do not allow reporters to interview the actors.

Whatever it is, we enthusiastically look forward to hearing from this movie.

Hollywood has come to Jakarta with the filming of psychological thriller “The Philosophers” set to begin on Saturday.

At a news conference in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Friday, film producer George Zakk said he believed “The Philosophers,” to be set in an international school in Jakarta, was the first time Hollywood had shot a movie on location in Indonesia’s capital.

The producer of “The Pacifier” starring Vin Diesel said the film would “present Jakarta today as we will shoot the entire film in Indonesia, not any other place.”

Also present at the news conference were stars Bonnie Wright who plays Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter film series, English actor James D’Arcy and Indonesian Cinta Laura.

Cinta, who shot to fame on a local sinetron production but has most recently focused on her pop career, said she would “represent an Indonesian student in the film.”

Philosophers director John Huddles, who has previously directed the 1998 film “At Sachem Farm” starring Minnie Driver, Rufus Sewell and Nigel Hawthorne, said multiculturalism was a major theme in the movie, which revolves around a challenge to reboot humanity in the event of a nuclear apocalypse.

“There will be students from Turkey, Iran, Australia, Africa, Canada, United States and London,” he said.

Wright said the cast had been in Jakarta for a week, acclimatizing themselves to the local conditions to help them get into character.

Television station SCTV has worked with the crew for more than a year to arrange the film’s production in Jakarta.

The film will also be shot at locations outside of Jakarta, though it was not disclosed where.
